AUTHENTICATE YOUR FINDS
BY CHARLES VANCE
We are all negligent when it comes to recording our finds. Only recently,I decided to have a padlock that I had found, but, cannot remember where or when it was found. While going through the hundreds of finds, this particular lock, that is solid brass caught my attention.
Recently I sent a letter to Western&Eastern Treasure's,Mark Parker to identify for me.
A few days later came the reply. It is -The Barnes "Good Luck" horseshoe/hoof padlock, which is listed in Franklin Arnall's ID/ Price Guide,The Padlock Collector,6th Ed.
It is a beautiful lock that only the yellow brass can make it shine. The interesting part is,that it has a nice monetary value placed on it. I ,of course was totally flabbergasted as Mark said it's value is listed at $625.00 So I think it helpful and beneficial to take a journal with you ,so you may record all your finds. Also , Mark Parker wants to feature the lock in an upcoming issue, and submit an article about it.
